Injuries from Gym Equipment – How to Avoid Them

Friday, November 20th, 2009
Source: Wikipedia

A significant number of people are injured each year when working out at a gym.  Gym equipment should be designed to withstand significant stresses placed on it during a workout.  Injuries occur as a result of several issues, including the following:

  • Improperly maintained equipment - a consumer can do little to assure that a gym properly maintains its equipment.  However, be aware of equipment that appears to be worn, makes odd noises when used, or seems to have missing bolts or screws.
  • Improper training / use of equipment – a consumer should be sure that she knows how to use equipment at the gym.  The best way to learn how to use equipment is through traning by an experienced and knowledgable personal trainer.
  • Overzealousness – how many people will start working out, again, at gyms in January?  They will be zealous and looking forward to great results.  Unfortunately, many have not been trained or do not possess sufficient knowledge about how to properly work out.  A good personal trainer will fan the flame of confidence and lessen the likelihood of injury.

Be careful – and get great results!

Injuries in the gym can occur due to many different circumstances. Poorly maintained exercise machines, a lack of supervision or insufficient training on how to use the gym equipment may all be good reasons to make a gym injury compensation claim when you or a loved one has sustained an injury in a gym.
