Tarrant County Settles Lawsuit for $1,000,000.00
Tarrant County has agreed to pay $1 million to settle a lawsuit over the 2020 jail death of 28-year-old Javonte Myers, who suffered from a seizure disorder. The suit, filed by Myers’ mother, alleged that jail staff ignored his serious medical and mental health needs and failed to perform required welfare checks, leaving him unnoticed for hours after his death. Two jailers face both civil claims and criminal charges in connection with the case, while concerns continue to mount over multiple deaths and mistreatment allegations at the Tarrant County Jail.
