2 Detainees Die in Tarrant County Jail Within 4 Days

In a mere four days in late June 2023, two inmates died at Tarrant County Jail. These events happened in the past week. A preliminary investigation has revealed that suicide was the cause of death of an inmate who died on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at the Fort Worth, Texas, jail. Another inmate experienced an unknown medical emergency and died early Tuesday morning.

There have been at least three other deaths at Tarrant County Jail this year, and last year there were similar situations to this latest story, where two deaths occurred within two weeks or less.

2 Inmates Died This Week in Fort Worth’s Tarrant County Jail

A 39-year-old male inmate was discovered unresponsive in Tarrant County Jail on Saturday night. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered by jail staff. MedStar and the Fort Worth Fire Department arrived on the scene, and lifesaving measures were continued. The inmate was transported by ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital (JPS), where he was pronounced deceased on the same day.

A 55-year-old female inmate was admitted on the same day the above-referenced inmate died. She was incarcerated at the jail at 100 N. Lamar St. While routine cell checks were being conducted either late Monday or early Tuesday, she experienced an unknown medical emergency. Immediately, lifesaving measures were initiated. She was quickly transported to JPS., where she was pronounced deceased. She died in the jail’s custody on June 27, 2023. The cause and manner of her death have not been released pending an autopsy.
