Two Inmates in Tarrant County Jail Die Within One Week in February 2022
In this series, we are now looking at a third brief time in 2022 in which two inmates died in Tarrant County Jail. The dates likely have no other significance than raising awareness about inmate deaths.
An 80-year-old inmate died on February 19, 2022, and 40-year-old Edgar Villatoro-Alvarez died seven days later on February 25. Both have in common with the last two inmates written about in this series the fact that they were also in leg shackles in the time leading up to their deaths.
An 80-Year-Old Man Dies After Incarceration in Tarrant County Jail
The inmate was brought into the custody of the Tarrant County Sheriff on December 20, 2020, at 2:00 am. On December 22, 2020, he was booked into custody while at the Medical City Arlington Hospital. During the current custodial trip to the hospital, the inmate was transferred to John Peter Smith Hospital (JPSH) on January 28, 2022, for hypothermia with chest pain. A doctor with JPSH pronounced the inmate deceased on February 19, 2022.
Detectives responded to the hospital to conduct the initial investigation and contacted the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office (TCME), which advised that an autopsy would not be conducted on the inmate. in the custodial death report (CDR), the manner of death was listed as natural and the medical cause of death states “recovering from Covid-19, chest pain, hypothermia.”
