A 2023 Custodial Death at Tarrant County Jail

George William Zink entered Tarrant County Jail on November 23, 2022, and died in the jail’s custody on February 15, 2023. It was noted at the time of booking that he exhibited mental health problems, but he seemed not to have a medical problem. The cause of Mr. Zink’s death is unknown and pending an autopsy report.

There are few details about what happened regarding Mr. Zink’s health while he was incarcerated. The answer is “unknown” to the question of whether the decedent had been receiving treatment for the medical condition that caused his death after his admission to the jail’s jurisdiction. The custodial death report (CDR) also shows that the cause of death was the result of a pre-existing medical condition, and the means of death was illness/natural cause.

Mr. Zink was housed in a single cell. In the summary of how the death occurred, it begins by saying that on the day of his death, a detention officer notified the Tarrant County Medical team that Inmate Zink had not eaten lunch or dinner. An RN asked that Inmate Zink be escorted to the medical floor.

More details are to follow in the next installment of this series. The address of the Tarrant County Jail where Mr. Zink was housed is 100 N Lamar, Fort Worth, Texas, 76196.
