Jarnell Kimble Dies from Diabetic Ketoacidosis
Forty-five-year-old Jarnell Kimble was booked into Bexar County Jail on February 28, 2019. One month later, still in the jail’s custody, he died. According to the autopsy, Mr. Kimble’s cause of death was diabetic ketoacidosis.
The summary of how Mr. Kimble’s death occurred conveys very little. Nothing is said about the treatment he may or may not have received for diabetes while he was incarcerated. In a question about the cause of death, the answer indicates that it was a result of a pre-existing medical condition as opposed to a condition that developed after admission.
If Mr. Kimble already had diabetes when he entered the jail, it seems certain that he would have had prescription medication, including insulin, for treatment of the condition. However, the custodial death report (CDR) makes no indication that prescription medications were administered to Mr. Kimble during his time of incarceration in Bexar County Jail.
Per the summary on the CDR, on March 29 at 10:34 AM, Mr. Kimble was discovered unresponsive in the multiple-occupancy cell where he was housed.
A medical code was announced and upgraded to Code 1 Blue after the medical staff arrived. Emergency medical services (EMS) were dispatched, and Mr. Kimble was transported to Metropolitan Methodist Hospital. Medical staff at the hospital pronounced him deceased at 8:52 PM.
The address of the Bexar County Jail facility where Mr. Kimble was housed is 200 N. Comal in San Antonio, TX 78207.
