Brandon Alexander Dominguez Dies and Diabetic Ketoacidosis is a Possible Cause
Brandon Alexander Dominguez was only 23 years old when he died in the custody of the Denton County Jail in Denton, Texas, on August 18, 2021. He had been incarcerated since the previous month, on July 2.
During the booking process, documentation shows that Mr. Dominguez exhibited medical and mental health problems. One of the questions in the custodial death report (CDR) was whether or not the cause of death was the result of a pre-existing medical condition or was the cause a medical condition that developed after admission. The CDR shows that the “deceased developed condition after admission.”
The CDR also indicates that, yes, Mr. Dominguez received treatment for the medical condition that caused his death after admission to the jail’s jurisdiction.
There is also this question on the CDR:
- “Has a medical examiner or coroner conducted an evaluation to determine the cause of death.?” The answer is: “No, evaluation not planned.” Yet, the report shows that the manner of death was natural. It also lists “possible diabetic ketoacidosis.”
In the next segment of this series, learn about the details in the CDR’s summary of how Mr. Dominguez’s death occurred.
