A 21-Year-Old Inmate at Cherokee County Jail Dies-Pt. 4
After jailers sat Cherokee County Jail inmate Aiydasani Mahogany Bryant back up after collapsing twice, emergency medical services (EMS) arrived on the scene. Ms. Bryant was alert and talking, but while speaking with EMS, she collapsed for a third time. Lifesaving measures began, and Ms. Bryant was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased on the same day, which was February 21, 2023.

Rule §271.1(a)(10) states that the status of inmates confined to a violent cell must be reassessed and documented at least every 24 hours for continuance of status.
- During a custodial death review, it was determined that there were no documented reassessments of an inmate confined to a violent cell. The inmate was confined in a violent cell for over 68 hours with no documented reassessments conducted.
One of the vital purposes of classification status is to put nonviolent persons with other nonviolent inmates. If an inmate no longer belongs in a violent cell, he or she should be removed so that the risk to that inmate is minimized.

- It was determined during a March 22-24, 2022, jail inspection report that documented reviews of inmates placed in the violent cell were not being conducted every 24 hours for continuance status when placed in the violent cell for multiple days.
