A 23-Year-Old Tarrant County Jail Inmate Dies on 7/20/22
On August 4, 2022, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department reported the death of Trelynn Dmaun Wormley to the Texas Office of the Attorney General. The 23-year-old was booked into Tarrant County Jail in Fort Worth, Texas, on January 25, 2022, and died there on July 20, 2022.
Infection control is among the challenges in correctional settings, including county and municipal jails. Sepsis is among the most dangerous conditions because, once it develops from infection, it can lead to death. Treatment with antibiotics is virtually all that is needed to prevent sepsis from becoming a life-threatening condition. However, appropriate medical care is required to prevent sepsis from becoming a threat to an inmate with an infection.
Preliminary Autopsy Results Show Sepsis Caused an Inmate’s Death in Dewitt County, Texas
Christopher Lee Beck, a 42-year-old inmate of the Dewitt County Jail, was initially found to have died of sepsis on October 1, 2019. The custodial death report (CDR) also shares details about Mr. Beck’s brief stay in the jail before his death. He entered the jail on September 28, 2019, at 2:45 PM.
One of the jailers was notified of unknown medical problems being experienced by Mr. Beck on the night of September 30. A staff nurse informed the jailer that she had checked the patient earlier in the day. Welfare checks were done as Mr. Beck complained of chest pain and stomach pain.
