A 26-Yr-Old Man Dies After 13 Days in Amarillo’s Potter County Jail Texas-Pt3

Potter County Jail in Amarillo, Texas, is where Larry Darrell Douglas died at the age of 26. Mr. Douglas was incarcerated there from February 25, 2022, until the day of his death on March 10, 2022.

22-Year-Old Daniel Luis Martinez Commits Suicide in Potter County Jail

Daniel Luis Martinez was booked into Potter County Jail on April 23, 2018. He died there on May 1, 2018. The Potter County Sheriff’s Department filed the custodial death report (CDR) on Mr. Martinez on May 4, 2018. The report shows that he died of suicide. He hung himself in his single cell. The brief summary of his death indicates that at about 10:32 PM on May 1, 2018, Mr. Martinez was discovered hanging by his neck with a bedsheet. The bedsheet was attached to a metal partition in his cell. Life-saving measures were initiated and continued when the emergency medical services team arrived. Efforts to save Mr. Martinez continued until 10:59 PM, when CPR was halted by order of an EMT with the Amarillo Medical Service Crew.

One of the duties of jails is to protect prisoners from harm, including doing harm to themselves. Suicide is a leading cause of death in county jails in Texas and throughout the nation.
