A 26-Yr-Old Man Tased by Frisco TX Police Dies-Pt.2

On September 14, 2022, Genesis Nyshellton Hicks, age 26, ran from Frisco Police Department officers when they tried to detain him in Frisco, Texas. Tragically, Mr. Hicks fell and struck his head on the ground when he suffered the effects of being tasered by one of the officers. First responders transported Mr. Hicks to Baylor McKinney Hospital after the fall, but he never recovered. A doctor declared him deceased on September 29, 2022.

What Kinds of Injuries do Tasers Cause?

A watchdog group has looked into the dangers of tasers and found instances in which individuals were injured and killed by being tased. A man in California, for instance, died after he was allegedly tased 17 times within 3 minutes. Police officers have also been injured by electronic weapons. An officer in Arizona had participated in training as a “volunteer” test subject and sustained a compression fracture to his spine from being tased.

Researchers have found that tasing incidents have resulted in people suffering broken teeth and broken bones because of falling when stunned by the electric shock. There are at least two known cases in which individuals drowned when they were tased near bodies of water. Cases of death occurring after being tased are undeniable. Debates center on what actually caused the deaths—being tased or, for example, pre-existing medical conditions?
