Police Officers with the Killeen Police Department Allegedly use a Taser on a Man
The possession of tasers or stun guns is currently not regulated in the state of Texas. The use of electronic weapons is often associated with controversy. In May 2022 news out of Killeen, Texas, a controversial video showing a man being tased by officers with the Killeen Police Department (KPD) was known to have already been widely circulated on social media.
A person who was near the scene began videotaping the incident with his cell phone. KPD officers are seen asking a man to exit the vehicle. They instruct him to turn around. The man continues facing the officers and can be heard saying that he did not believe it was right.
In response, an officer pointed his electronic weapon directly at the man and informed him that he was going to be tased. The man responded that he did not have a weapon. At that time, the officer deployed the taser and the man appears to fall back into his car as a result. Officers are seen pulling the man out of his vehicle by one of his legs. They turned him onto his stomach and handcuffed his hands behind his back. After that, the man who was shooting the video claims that a police officer took his phone from him.
A KPD spokesperson released a statement saying that the incident caught on video is being thoroughly investigated by their Internal Affairs Unit, per the news report. A city councilwoman made a statement in which she explained that an internal investigation is automatically launched in Killeen anytime a KPD officer uses a weapon such as a taser or gun.
