Inmate Deaths are Frequent Occurrences in U.S. Jails
On any given day, it is possible to find news of a county or city jail inmate death that has occurred in the United States. In a Riverside County Jail in Palm Desert CA, a woman who died on October 13, 2022, is said by a news outlet to be the 15th person to die in that jail this year. She died on her second day in the jail. The County Sheriff’s office said that the woman had a history of medical problems but provided no further information.
Of the 15 people who died in the county’s jails, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office has reportedly identified only two of them. Both inmates that they provided details on were victims of homicide. The department has not confirmed publicly the other causes of death except in regard to some still-unnamed inmates who “died of drug overdoses.”
