Dvonte Marquese Valentine Dies at Smith County Jail on December 4, 2022

Dvonte Marquese Valentine was booked as an inmate at Smith County Jail in Tyler, Texas, on November 16, 2022.

The custodial death report (CDR) turned in by the Smith County Sheriff’s Office describes an incident on November 28 in which Mr. Valentine fell and was injured. He suffered a medical emergency afterward, and medical personnel advised the jail that he needed to go to an emergency room for further treatment.

Mr. Valentine was transported by ambulance to Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler, Texas, where he was diagnosed with organ failure. The administrative staff at the jail obtained a personal recognizance (PR) bond from a local judge. This made it possible for family members to visit him in the ICU unit. The jail was later informed that inmate Valentine had died on December 4, 2022. He was only 24 years old.

Although the official cause of death is unknown, the CDR indicates that Mr. Valentine died from the irreversible effects of the injury he suffered.
