A 2nd Smith County Jail Prisoner Dies in 4 Days-Pt.4

Joshua Cody Fouse was an inmate of Smith County Jail, having been booked on December 4, 2022. Mr. Fouse was housed in a multiple occupancy cell at 2811 Public Road in Tyler, TX 75702. During breakfast time on December 7, a jailer entered Mr. Fouse’s cell to inquire about whether he wanted breakfast. The jailer discovered that Mr. Fouse was in an unresponsive state.

Carlos Jose Hernandez, Jr., Commits Suicide Continued

The following continues the narrative surrounding the events of Carlos Jose Hernandez, Jr.’s  tragic death at age 22 in Smith County Jail in Tyler, Texas.

At 12:20 AM on June 12, 2017, which was the day after his arrest, a detention officer with the Smith County Sheriff’s Office was making a face-to-face checks of inmates. The officer saw that Mr. Hernandez was hanging by his neck in the shower of the single occupancy “side cell” where he was housed.

The officer removed Mr. Hernandez from the ligature. Personnel with the Tyler Fire Department and an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team arrived at the jail. He was declared deceased in the jail.

Quincy Butler Dies in Smith County Jail
