A 36-Year-Old Dies After One Week in Nueces County Jail-Pt.4
A report filed by the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office on October 19, 2022, provides few details about what happened to a deceased Nueces County Jail inmate who died on September 14, 2022. The deceased is Juan Carlos Cantu. He was incarcerated in the Corpus Christi jail from September 7, 2022, to September 14, 2022, the day of his death. Mr. Cantu was found unresponsive on the floor of his cell that day and, at 10:30 PM, he was transported to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital. He was pronounced deceased there at 10:52 PM.
Danny Carrillo Dies After Restraint Procedures at Nueces County Jail
Twenty-seven-year-old Danny Carrillo was booked into Nueces County Jail on February 12, 2018. An incident that occurred on March 5, 2018, at 1:30 AM ended in his death less than an hour later at 2:28 AM. It is described in the custodial death report (CDR), which was prepared and filed by the Nueces County Sheriff’s Department in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The report says that Mr. Carrillo was to be transported to a medical station in the jail because he had displayed an altered mental state. When officers arrived at the cell where he was housed, they found that Mr. Carrillo had used his mattress to jam the door. He disregarded instructions and allegedly struck an officer in his face. Officers say that Mr. Carrillo also tried to bite them. A taser was used to subdue him, and then they placed handcuffs on him. When officers attempted to put him on his feet, they found that he was unresponsive. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
