A 36-Year-Old Dies After One Week in Nueces County Jail-Pt.5
At age 36, Juan Carlos Cantu was booked into Nueces County Jail. He was an inmate at the Corpus Christi jail from September 7, 2022, until he was declared deceased a week later. The cause of Mr. Cantu’s death is currently unknown. The custodial death report (CDR) about Mr. Cantu that has been filed with the Office of the Attorney General will be updated when autopsy results are in.
Nueces County Jail Inmate Carlos S. Contreras Dies on 10/2/22
In this series, information has been provided on several Nueces County Jail inmates. Since this series began, another custodial death in the Corpus Christi jail has been filed with the Office of Attorney General (OAG) of Texas. Sixty-seven-year-old Carlos S. Contreras entered the jail on September 27, 2022, and was pronounced deceased five days later on October 2, 2022. According to the CDR that was filed about Mr. Contreras, although his cause of death is unknown, it is listed as illness/natural cause.
During intake at the jail, no indication was made regarding a known medical condition that Mr. Contreras was suffering from. The summary of how his death occurred indicates that he was found unresponsive. Emergency medical services personnel arrived at the jail and continued lifesaving measures. Both cardiopulmonary resuscitation and an AED machine were administered by medical personnel with Nueces County Jail and paramedics. Mr. Conreras was at Christus Spohn Hospital Shoreline when he was pronounced deceased on September 14, 2022.
