48-Yr-Old Gilbert Kervlis Dies by Suicide in Bexar County Jail on 10/1/2020

When Gilbert Kervlis was booked into Bexar County Jail on September 26, 2020, the intake officer noted that he did not make suicidal statements at the time. Tragically, on his third day in the San Antonio jail, Mr. Kervlis tied a sheet around his neck and secured it to a lavatory sink in the multiple-occupancy cell where he was housed.

A deputy discovered Mr. Kervlis on the floor, and he immediately began chest compressions after removing the sheet from his neck. Another officer and then jail medical staff took over cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The San Antonio Fire Department was contacted, and they took over CPR when they arrived. Emergency medical services personnel then transported Mr. Kervlis by ambulance to a downtown hospital. On October 1, 2020, at approximately 4:00 PM, he was pronounced deceased.

In the custodial death report (CDR) about him, which was filed by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, the answer to whether Mr. Kervlis exhibited any mental health problems is “unknown.”
