A 44-Yr-Old Inmate in Guadalupe County Jail TX Dies

A 30-Year-Old Inmate Commits Suicide in Guadalupe County Jail
Mason Tyler Simon, age 30, entered Guadalupe County Jail in Seguin, Texas, on April 1, 2022. During the booking process, it was noted that he appeared both to be intoxicated by drugs or alcohol and to have medical problems. He was placed in single-occupancy cell A-67.
The summary of how Mr. Simon’s death occurred in the custodial death report (CDR) prepared by the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office shows that he was found hanging by his neck in his cell at 4:27 PM on April 5, 2022. Mr. Simon had used a t-shirt around his neck that he tied to cell bars. The detention officer who discovered him cut him down and took lifesaving measures. The jail notified emergency medical services (EMS). Paramedics quickly arrived at the jail and transported Mr. Simon to a nearby hospital. The indication in the CDR is that he was pronounced deceased at the hospital at 5:35 PM on April 5, 2022.
Many U.S. studies show that the leading cause of death in local jails is suicide. There are suicide prevention measures included in the minimum jail standards in Texas, which are established by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
