Mentally Ill Patient Dies on 2nd Day in Tarrant County Jail
Javonte Lakendrick Myers was only 28 years old when he was incarcerated. He only lived for two days after being placed in Tarrant County Jail. Mr. Myers died on June 19, 2020. During the intake screening process, he was identified as exhibiting mental and medical health problems.
In this day and age, when mentally ill people are having a psychotic episode or causing an annoyance, oftentimes they are arrested. Mr. Myers was arrested for criminal trespass, but no charges were filed against him at the time of his death.
All we know about the death of Mr. Myers is what written about how his death occurred, which is recorded in the custodial death report (CDR). We know that at 4:28 PM, he was discovered unresponsive in the single occupancy cell where he was housed. A code was called, and an AED was placed on him, which is an automated external defibrillator. No shocks were advised nor administered before he was declared deceased in his cell at 4:50 PM.
