A 45-Year-Old Dies at Lubbock County Jail on May 4, 2021

Lubbock County Jail has a recent history of passing annual jail inspections conducted by inspectors with the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. However, compliance with minimum jail standards hasn’t prevented inmate deaths from occurring, including the death of Chad Douglas Farmer. Mr. Farmer was booked into the jail at 9:37 PM on May 3, 2021. Afterward, he was moved to the Medical Center housing area. Minutes afterward, he was found unresponsive in his bunk. He did not appear to have suffered injury or trauma. CPR was started by detention officers, and they also used the Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Within 15 minutes of Mr. Farmer being found unresponsive, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel arrived. They pronounced him dead at 9:15 PM on May 4, 2021.

The custodial death report (CDR) on Mr. Farmer reflected that he appeared to be intoxicated on drugs or alcohol. He also exhibited medical and mental health problems. The manner of death is listed as natural, and chronic alcoholism is shown as the medical cause of death. Mr. Farmer was 45 years old on the day of his death.
