A Carson County Inmate Dies 4 Hours After Being Booked-Pt4
Nicholas Whatley Jr. died on August 9, 2022, after being in the custody of Carson County Jail in Panhandle, Texas, for only 4 hours. He was booked into the jail at 6:02 AM, and 10:00 AM was the time he was pronounced deceased. His cause of death is currently unknown and awaiting the results of an autopsy. However, the custodial death report (CDR) has an entry indicating that he appeared to have a seizure right after he was booked into the jail. It also says that the medical reason for his death could have been natural causes or an overdose. Mr. Whatley was 41 years old.
Potter County Jail Inmate Daniel Luis Martinez, Age 22, Commits Suicide
The Potter County Sheriff’s Department reported to the Attorney General of Texas about the tragic May 1, 2018, death of 22-year-old Daniel Luis Martinez. On April 23, 2018, Mr. Martinez was booked into the jail at 13100 NE 29th in Amarillo, Texas 79111. Eight days later, at about 10:32 PM, Mr. Martinez was found hanging from his neck by a bed sheet that was fastened to a middle partition. Emergency care such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered. Emergency medical services personnel arrived in an ambulance and took over lifesaving measures. A medical technician with the ambulance crew proclaimed Mr. Martinez deceased at 10:59 PM.
