A Charge Against a Man Allegedly Shot Twice by a Mesquite, Texas, Police Officer Has been Dropped
Thirty-one-year-old Lyndo Jones was allegedly shot twice by an officer with the Mesquite Police Department in Mesquite, Texas, on November 8, 2017. Police had responded to the 1300 block of South Town East Boulevard on a report of a possible car burglary. At the time, Jones was in his own truck, and the alarm on the vehicle was malfunctioning. Police approached him, and Jones claims that he was shot within 10 seconds of their arrival. A spokesperson for the police department said that a scuffle had started before shots were allegedly fired. First, Jones claims, he was shot in the stomach. Then the officers allegedly tried to perform a cavity search as he was lying there, wounded. When he reacted, Jones says that he was then shot in the back. Jones was admitted to Baylor Hospital, where he was reported to be in critical but stable condition. He has since been released.
A charge of evading arrest was filed and then dropped hours later.
The officer who allegedly shot Jones has been with the department for a decade. He has been placed on paid administrative leave and is scheduled to be interviewed by criminal investigators. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and the Mesquite Police Department are investigating the alleged police shooting.
Jones is demanding to see the dash cam of the police officers plus any body cam videos that may have recorded the incident.
Sources claim that law enforcement officials have expressed concern about the officer-involved shooting.
