A Detainee at Garza County Jail Dies on 7/12/23
John David Snell was 51 years old when he was booked into Garza County Jail on June 20, 2023. At intake, he appeared to be intoxicated by drugs or alcohol. Mr. Snell was placed in a single-occupancy detox cell. He was found unresponsive on June 24, 2023. Mr. Snell was moved to a hospital and was pronounced deceased there on July 12, 2023. Garza County Jail is at 412 E 15th St, Post, TX 79356. Garza County Jail has a 96-bed capacity.
A Second Detainee Dies in Garza County Jail Within 2 Months
On September 14, 2023, a 47-year-old detainee at Garza County Jail died. This followed the July 12, 2023, death of a 51-year-old detainee. The more recent death is listed in the custodial death report as a death by natural causes. And the medical cause of death is shown as “inmate was diagnosed with Leukemia.”
The detainee entered the jail on August 7, 2023. He was placed in a multiple occupancy cell. One month later, on September 7, 2023, he suffered a severe headache and weakness in his right hand. As a result, he was transported by ambulance to the University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, to rule out a stroke. The detainee was admitted to the hospital for further evaluation.
