Abilene Inmate Margo Daniele Gomez Dies in Taylor County Jail

Margo Daniele Gomez was booked into Taylor County Jail at 910 S. 27th in Abilene TX 79602, on January 3, 2019. During intake, it was noted that Ms. Gomez exhibited mental health problems. She was placed in a single-occupancy cell. On January 10, her 8th day of incarceration, Ms. Gomez died and the summary of her passing in the custodial death report (CDR) about her is unusually brief. It communicates the following:

  • Miss Gomez was discovered unresponsive in her single cell. Jail staff began cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and they continued until EMS arrived and took over.

In the amended version of the original CDR, results from the autopsy are included. The manner of death is listed as natural. The medical cause of death is “sudden unexplained death in epilepsy.”

A couple of months after this tragic death, Travis County Jail was cited for being non-compliant with jail standards. Also, in the years just prior to the death of Ms. Gomez, a number of other inmates died in the custody of Taylor County Jail. More information follows in this continuing series.
