A Galveston County Jail Inmate Dies After Being in Handcuffs-Pt.2
At 40 years old, Broderick Demoures Davis was booked into Galveston County Jail on September 4, 2022, and died 5 hours later. Documentation shows that he exhibited medical problems and appeared to be intoxicated by drugs or alcohol when he entered the jail. It is unknown what caused Mr. Davis’s death, and results of an autopsy are awaited.
Nicholas Whatley Jr. Dies 4 Hours After Being Booked into Carson County Jail in Panhandle, Texas
When 41-year-old Nicholas Whatley Jr. was booked into Carson County Jail in Panhandle, Texas, at 6:02 AM on August 9, 2022, the booking officer noted both that he appeared to have medical problems and he appeared to be intoxicated by alcohol or drugs. He was placed in a detox cell. Meanwhile, a deputy checked the medical and suicide screens and found that everything appeared to be fine. Later, however, Mr. Whatley was discovered on the floor of his cell, and he appeared to be having a seizure.
Jailers contacted emergency medical services. When paramedics arrived, they provided Mr. Whatley with medical treatment. However, as he was still in medical distress, Mr. Whatley was transported by helicopter for treatment at North West Texas Hospital in Amarillo. Once there, was pronounced deceased at 10:00 AM, just 4 hours after entering Carson County Jail.
While the cause of death is still pending autopsy results, it is indicated in the custodial death report about Mr. Whatley that he appeared to be having a seizure shortly after booking and that he died of possible natural causes or an overdose.
