A Galveston County Jail Inmate Dies After Being in Handcuffs-Pt.3
The Galveston County Sheriff’s Department in Galveston, Texas, filed a custodial death report (CDR) about 40-year-old Broderick Demoures Davis on September 21, 2022. Mr. Davis died on September 4, 2022, which was the same day he was booked into Galveston County Jail. The summary on how the death occurred indicates that Mr. Davis had been placed in hand restraints. Also, according to the CDR, deputies had Mr. Davis on the ground to control him before he became unresponsive.
Markist Levar Sims Dies 5 Hours After Being Booked into Matagorda County Jail
Markist Levar Sims had been an inmate at Matagorda County Jail in Bay City, Texas, for only about 5 hours when he was declared deceased on August 6, 2022. The cause of death is still pending the results of an autopsy. The CDR indicates that Mr. Sims was placed in a single-occupancy detox cell at about 10:30 PM on August 5. Less than 2 hours later, a jailer saw that he appeared to be in medical distress. Paramedics transported him to Matagorda Regional Hospital. Later, while receiving treatment, Mr. Sims went into cardiac arrest from which he could not be revived.
A question on the CDR asks whether the decedent had a pre-existing condition but the report shows that he developed a medical condition after admission to Matagorda County Jail. The jail’s address is 2323 Ave E in Bay City TX 77414.
