A Hidalgo County Jail Inmate Dies – Part 2
On June 11, 2022, 47-year-old Miguel Angel Garcia was arrested and placed in Hidalgo County Jail in Edinburg, Texas. The jail’s address is 1200 S. Tenth Ave. in Edinburg, TX 78539. The custodial death report (CDR) about Mr. Garcia shows that he was discovered unresponsive but awake on September 4, 2022. He was transported to Edinburg Medical Center in Edinburg and was proclaimed deceased the following day.
25-Year-Old Anthony Lee Villarreal Dies After 4 Days in Hidalgo County Jail
On October 6, 2020, 25-year-old Anthony Lee Villarreal was booked into Hidalgo County Jail at 1102 Trenton Rd. W in Edinburg, TX 78539. Tragically, he died on October 10, 2020, in the jail’s custody. The CDR about Mr. Villarreal’s death shows that he didn’t exhibit medical issues or mental problems upon entry. No suicidal statements were made, and he did not appear to be intoxicated by drugs or alcohol.
At 1:25 AM on the day of his death, however, Mr. Villarreal was transferred from housing cellblock to the jail Infirmary. According to the medical log, he suffered a seizure for approximately two or three minutes. He soiled himself from both the bladder and bowels. He behaved in an aggressive, disoriented, and agitated manner.
Mr. Villarreal was then placed in a restraint chair for the purpose of avoiding injury or self-harm. At 1:38 AM he had another seizure. Jailers removed him from the restraint chair and emergency medical services personnel were summoned to transport him to a medical facility.
