Things to Know About Naloxone, such as Narcan® Continued
What are some signs that a person may be overdosing on opioids?
It is safe to administer naloxone to any individual who may be experiencing an overdose. Even if there are no opioids in a person’s system, no harm is done. Individuals and organizations raising awareness about the lifesaving benefits of naloxone often assure people that no one will face harmful consequences because they administered naloxone to another person.
You could be saving a life if you administer Narcan or another medication containing naloxone to a person who appears to be overdosing on drugs. The following are among the signs that a person may be experiencing a drug overdose:
- The body is limp
- Loss of consciousness
- An inability to stay awake
- Slow, shallow breathing
- Pinpoint pupils, which means the pupils are small and constricted
- Clammy or cold skin
