A Nueces County Jail Detainee Dies on 4/13/23-Pt.4
Charles Benedict was booked into Nueces County Jail in Corpus Christi, Texas, on March 29, 2023. On April 9, 2023, he was discovered on his bunk lying face down and making no response to the unit officer. Emergency medical services (EMS) was notified about the incident, and an automated external defibrillator (AED) was administered. Members of the nursing staff administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Rule §259.138(3)-Holding Cells
Nueces County Jail was cited for failing to comply with Rule §259.138(3)-Holding Cells. The inspector’s notes included on the jail inspection report dated June 21-23, 2022, are below:
- On the dates of the inspection of Nueces County Jail, there were multiple holding cells with more inmates being confined than the designated capacity on the outside of the cell doors. while discussing this matter with the Nueces Jail Administration, it was discovered that they have faced overpopulation issues periodically since May 22 but never communicated this with their inspector or anyone at the Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS) until the inspector arrived onside for the annual inspection.
