What makes Fentanyl a Massive Threat?
Of course, there is no quality control for illicit drugs that may contain fentanyl. The manufacture of illicit fentanyl primarily happens in foreign nations. From clandestine labs, the drug is smuggled into the U.S. through Mexico. Fentanyl is mixed with other illicit drugs, which increases their potency.
Fentanyl is sold in the name of other drugs in nasal sprays and powders as well as, increasingly, in pills. An element of fentanyl that is recognized as a dire threat is that the substance is pressed into pills fashioned to look like legitimate prescription opioids. Narcotics specialists have made it known that they themselves cannot differentiate between legitimate and illegitimate prescription opioid pills. Oftentimes, these counterfeit pills contain none of the promised drugs but, rather, contain lethal doses of fentanyl.
The risk that illegal drugs have intentionally been contaminated with fentanyl is significant. What drastically increases the likelihood of a fatal interaction with illicit drugs is that drug dealers mix in potent, low-cost fentanyl instead of such drugs as cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin.
