How to Interpret Blood Pressure Readings
In general, blood pressure is checked to monitor a person’s heart condition. The reading of blood pressure checks provides some definitive information. For example, if the upper number in a blood pressure reading is less than 120 and the lower number is less than 80, the reading is normal.
Elevated blood pressure is defined as upper numbers between 120 and 129 and the lower numbers less than 80.
If an individual has high blood pressure aka hypertension Stage 1, the upper reading is between 130 and 139 and the lower number is 80-89.
High Blood Pressure Stage 2 readings are 140 or higher for the upper number and 90 or higher for the lower number.
An individual is experiencing a Hypertensive Crisis and medical attention should be sought immediately if the upper number is higher than 180 and the lower number is higher than 120.
