A Woman in a Borger, Texas, County Jail Uses a Bedsheet to Commit Suicide-Pt4

The custodial death report (CDR) about Miranda Louise Grayson shows that she entered Hutchinson County Jail on May 12, 2022. She was housed in a single cell, where she was found hanging on the afternoon of May 23, 2022. She used a bedsheet to hang herself from the upper vent. There is no indication that the usual life-saving methods were employed or that she was transferred from the Stinnett, Texas, jail to a nearby hospital. However, the CDR does list Ms. Grayson’s date and time of death as May 24, 2022, at 10:05 AM.

Denton County Jail is Non-Compliant with Minimum Jail Standards Regarding Inmate Observations

After conducting a March 8-10, 2022, jail inspection, an inspector with the Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS) shared the following information regarding the lack of compliance with RULE §275.1–Regular Observation by Jailers:

  • The video documentation of a particular face-to-face observation of an inmate held in Holding Cell #1 indicates that jail staff made an improper observation. Instead of actually seeing the inmate who was in the holding cell, the jailer merely scanned the electronic tag. While the inmate was in the holding cell, they suffered a medical emergency that resulted in death.
