Denton County Jail is Non-Compliant with Minimum Jail Standards Regarding Inmate Observations
After conducting a March 8-10, 2022, jail inspection, an inspector with the Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS) shared the following information regarding the lack of compliance with RULE §275.1–Regular Observation by Jailers:
- The video documentation of a particular face-to-face observation of an inmate held in Holding Cell #1 indicates that jail staff made an improper observation. Instead of actually seeing the inmate who was in the holding cell, the jailer merely scanned the electronic tag. While the inmate was in the holding cell, they suffered a medical emergency that resulted in death.
