An El Paso County Inmate Apparently Commits Suicide on 5/29/22
On June 28, 2022, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office filed a custodial death report (CDR) with the Office of the Attorney General in Texas regarding the death of 39-year-old Andres Linares Baca. Mr. Baca entered the El Paso County detention center on May 10, 2022. He died in the jail on May 29, 2022. The summary of his death indicates that the cause is unknown and pending an autopsy. However, the report also indicates that the means of death was hanging/strangulation, which indicates suicide.
In December 2021 Alone, 3 Die in El Paso’s Downtown Detention Facility (EPCDF)
December of 2021 was undeniably a deadly month in the El Paso County Downtown Detention Facility. The address of the jail is 601 E. Overland, El Paso, TX 79901. Two inmates died on the same day. Eric Dominguez Dies in EPCDF on 12/6/2021
Thirty-five-year-old Eric Dominguez entered the El Paso County detention facility in downtown El Paso on November 28, 2021. The CDR about Mr. Dominguez indicates that he died as a result of “Gastrointestinal Bleeding due to Peptic Ulcer of Stomach” on December 6, 2021.
The CDR also includes a summary of how the death occurred. The summary says that, during a security check, inmate Dominguez was observed sitting on the floor near the cell door. He was slumped over. Cpl. Perez knocked on the window, but there was no response from the inmate. Cpl. Perez then checked Mr. Dominguez for vital signs but found no results. Medical staff members administered first aid and deployed an automated external defibrillator (AED). Mr. Dominguez was transferred to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
