An Inmate Dies 3 Hours After Arrival in the Arlington Texas Municipal Jail-Pt2
On April 30, 2022, Bruno Mandujano Ayala was booked into Arlington City Jail after his arrest by the Arlington Police Department. Because of the bizarre behavior exhibited by Mr. Ayala, jailers placed him in a padded cell. He was found nonresponsive and, before 3 hours had passed since booking, Mr. Ayala was pronounced dead at Arlington Memorial Hospital.
A 42-Year-Old Inmate Outside Texas Dies in a County Jail After 2 Days
A 42-year-old man was arrested and placed in an adult detention center in a county outside Texas on May 11, 2022. One of the corrections officers at the facility discovered the man unresponsive in his cell two days later. Life-saving measures were instigated, but the man was pronounced dead in his jail cell on May 13, 2022. The inmate was set to have made his first appearance in court the following day. According to investigators, there were no signs of trauma nor were there any suspicious circumstances associated with the man’s death.
According to Reuters, 7,571 inmates died in U.S. county jails between 2008 and 2019. Of those who died, at least 4,998 people (two-thirds) had never been convicted on the charges for which they were held.
