An Inmate Housed in a Detox Cell in Tarrant County Jail Dies-Pt.2
On April 17, 2023, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office filed a custodial death report about Heidiann Renee Gitts with the Office of the Attorney General of Texas. The Sheriff’s Office is at 200 Taylor Street, Plaza Bldg., 7th Floor, Fort Worth, TX, 76196. Ms. Gitts died on March 20, 2023, at age 32, of cardiac arrest, according to the Medical Examiner’s report. She had only been in the jail for about 57 hours when she was pronounced deceased at Tarrant County Jail.
George William Zink Dies in Tarrant County Jail
George William Zink died in the custody of Tarrant County Jail on February 15, 2023, at the age of 57. According to the custodial death report (CDR), he died of a pre-existing medical condition. When he was booked into the jail, it was noted that Mr. Zink exhibited that he had mental health problems.
The only indication that Mr. Zink received medical care when he was incarcerated was in the summary of how the death occurred. A detention officer notified the medical team at the jail that Mr. Zink had not been eating his lunch or dinner. He requested an escort to bring Mr. Zink to the medical unit. Another detention officer responded, and he brought a wheelchair to transport Mr. Zink to the medical floor. Mr. Zink had to have assistance getting into the wheelchair. He was then escorted to the medical staff.
