A news report published on November 22, 2022, claims that 24 people so far have died while in the custody of Harris County Jail this year. The following are some details on two of the 2022 fatalities in the Houston jail system.

Victoria Margaret Simon Dies in Harris County Jail at Age 42

The Houston Police Department placed Victoria Margaret Simon under arrest and then booked her into Harris County Jail on September 29, 2022. Four days later, on October 2, 2022, she was found unresponsive in the single-occupancy quarantine cell where she was housed. Although lifesaving measures ensued, Ms. Simon was pronounced dead that same day. Her cause of death is unknown and is pending the results of an autopsy.

41-Year-Old Simon Peter Douglas Commits Suicide in Harris County Jail

Simon Peter Douglas was 41 years old when he was booked into Harris County Jail in Houston, Texas, on February 10, 2022. Even though Mr. Douglas was immediately discovered trying to hang himself in the booking area, he still managed to take his own life within 3 hours of arrival there. The precautions taken included placing him in a padded cell.
