Anquinetta Owens Dies On Day 4 in the Custody of Louisiana’s Rapides Parrish Jail

In Louisiana news on September 22, 2025, the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office announced that a female detainee at the Rapides Parish Detention Center-1 died on Friday.
Anquinetta Johnson Owens, 42, was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center-1 on September 16, 2025, on a charge of simple burglary. Three days later, at about 3:20 p.m. in her cell, deputies discovered that she was not breathing. Lifesaving measures were attempted by deputies and medical staff, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using an AED.
Pafford EMS-Cenla continued efforts to resuscitate Ms. Owens, and they were able to restore her pulse. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Sadly, she was pronounced deceased at the jail the same day, September 19, 2025.
The sheriff’s crime scene unit and corrections security investigators responded to the jail. Investigators said that they have found no evidence of foul play at this stage of the ongoing investigation. Results of an autopsy and toxicology tests are awaited to determine Ms. Owens’ cause of death.

This was at least the third inmate death in about 16 months to occur in Rapides Parish in very similar—almost identical—circumstances.
Kimberly Goodman Dies in the Custody of the Rapides Parish Detention Center
Kimberly Renee Goodman, 42, was arrested on Sunday, February 16, 2025, on a resisting an officer charge, for theft <$1,000, and a contempt of court charge. Four days later, Ms. Goodman was observed by medical personnel and discovered to be in medical distress due to an unknown origin.
Medical assistance was provided immediately, including the use of Narcan and an automated external defibrillator (AED). Kimberly Goodman was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased on February 20, 2025.

Inmate Douglas Coleman Dies in a Rapides Parish Jail After a Medical Emergency
In news from Alexandria, Louisiana, on Monday, July 1, 2024, the Rapides Parish Sheriff announced that a 52-year-old inmate suffered a medical emergency and died early Saturday morning.
Douglas Obrian Coleman had been booked into the Alexandria jail late Friday night, June 28, 2024, on a drug charge, contempt of court charges, and a cruelty to animals charge. At about 3 a.m. on June 29, Mr. Coleman was discovered unresponsive and not breathing in a dorm of the Rapides Parish Detention Center #1, according to a news release.
Deputies and medical staff began assisting Mr. Coleman, including giving him Narcan in case of a possible drug overdose. The Acadian Ambulance personnel arrived and took over lifesaving efforts. Mr. Coleman was never revived. He was pronounced deceased at about 3:54 a.m. on June 29, 2024, just hours after his arrival.
The press release about Mr. Coleman also says that after being booked, he was examined by medical personnel and moved into the dorm, where he was later found unresponsive.
The initial investigation into Mr. Coleman’s death found no evidence of foul play, based on the evidence gathered at that time. “It appears Coleman suffered a tragic medical emergency,” the news release says.
An autopsy and toxicology tests were performed, and the investigation was ongoing at that time.
