A Travis County Jail Inmate Commits Suicide

Thirty-two-year-old Jared Jon Bell was incarcerated in Travis County Jail from February 7, 2022, until his death by suicide on February 9, 2022. Mr. Bell was jailed in the detention facility at 500 West 10th Street in Austin, TX 78701. On the morning of his death, he was placed in the dayroom. There were no other inmates in the room, and a deputy left him there by himself at 9:19 AM as he was supposedly intending to use the telephone. Tragically, at 10:13 AM, a different officer found Mr. Bell with the phone cord wrapped around his neck.

The intake information about Mr. Bell indicates that he exhibited mental health problems and made suicidal statements during the entry process.
