A Man Turns Himself in and Dies at a County Jail 6 Days Later
A 26-year-old man was placed in an isolation cell after surrendering himself to authorities for an outstanding DUI warrant and being booked into a county jail outside Texas. During his 12 days in jail, he begged repeatedly for medical care and was shockingly mocked and ignored. On day 12 at the jail, EMS workers carried the cold, unresponsive inmate out of the jail on a stretcher. He was pronounced dead that day. Autopsy results showed that he died of septic shock that resulted from pneumonia.
An Inmate at a County Jail Dies of a Highly Survivable Disease
A man in a county jail outside Texas died of acute promyelocytic leukemia. With a 90% survivability rate, it is the most curable form of adult leukemia. Jail records show that the inmate was seen by nurses numerous times but failed to provide the medical care he needed. A nurse allegedly called him a faker two days before his death. He was allegedly denied medical care even after repeatedly vomiting and losing his ability to stand and walk.
