Ector County Jail is Cited for the Violation of Rule §273.3 – Health Instructions
Ector County Jail has been cited for allegedly failing to comply with Rule §273.3 – Health Instructions, which is in the chapter on Health Services. The rule states that all medical instructions of designated physicians shall be followed.
- During a complaint review, the following deficiency was found: Dressing changes were not administered twice daily for 20 days per a physician’s order.
In May 2023, Ector County Jail was cited for allegedly failing to comply with two minimum jail standards. Notes follow about the violation of rule Rule §275.1 – Regular Observation by Jailers, which is in the chapter on the Supervision of Inmates: Video evidence and documentation were reviewed after an in-custody death that occurred in October 2022. The TCJS inspector determined that nine (9) face-to-face observations did not occur because the inmate had placed a sheet over the cell door, obstructing the view of the jailer. The jailers made the rounds within the mandated timeframes but did not view the detainee face-to-face as required by minimum jail standards.
