Eric Hubbard Dies of Unknown Causes in Waller County Jail
Fifty-nine-year-old Eric Genell Hubbard was booked into Waller County Jail on February 11, 2025. The intake officer noted that he appeared to be intoxicated by drugs or alcohol and he also exhibited medical problems. Tragically, Mr. Hubbard was pronounced deceased in the jail on May 11, 2025.
The custodial death report (CDR) filed by the Waller County Sheriff’s Department on May 13, 2025, indicates that the cause of Mr. Hubbard’s death is currently unknown. The results of an autopsy are awaited. The CDR summary of how his death occurred begins by stating that at 12:37 p.m. on May 11, jail staff were conducting face-to-face observation rounds and found that Mr. Hubbard was not responding to their knocks on the door.
At the staff’s request, the door to MS4 was opened by main control. Mr. Hubbard remained nonresponsive. More staff entered the single-occupancy cell and attempted to get a pulse. The staff began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Automated external defibrillator (AED) pads were placed on Mr. Hubbard, and no shock was advised. Emergency medical services (EMS), having been contacted, arrived on the scene at 12:40 p.m. An EMS supervisor pronounced him deceased at 12:49 p.m.

A Fifth Inmate in About 2 Months Dies in Shelby County Jail
Courtney Berry was arrested and placed in Tennessee’s Shelby County Jail in February 2025. In April news, the recent death of Mr. Berry, 36, is mentioned as the fifth that has occurred among inmates in the Memphis jail in just over two months. Mr. Berry’s family has raised their concerns that he had made complaints and had not received his blood pressure medications at times when he had been asleep.
The last time his mother spoke to him, Mr. Berry had complained about chest pains. The next day, she was notified that her son had been discovered unresponsive in a jail bathroom and paramedics’ attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. A pre-existing medical condition was cited by a county leader as a factor in Mr. Berry’s death.

An Inmate Dies After an Alleged Delay in Providing Medical Care
The family of Logan Galloway is concerned that negligence in providing timely medical care is what caused his death at age 44 on November 7, 2024.
