For the 3rd Day in a Row, a Texas County Jail Inmate Commits Suicide-Pt4
Gilbert Shaw Medina died at age 32 on February 11, 2022. He committed suicide in Collin County Jail in McKinney, Texas. December 8, 2021 was the day he was booked into the jail.
Since this series began, the suicides of three more inmates in Texas county jails have been reported. They also took their own lives in the month of February 2022.
Daniel Ray Monroy
Daniel Ray Monroy took his own life at age 29 in Grayson County Jail in Sherman, Texas, on February 10, 2022. He had been booked into the jail on November 17, 2021. He was discovered hanging by a bedsheet around his neck, and the sheet had been tied to a vent. The custodial death report shows that he did not make suicidal statements. However, it reflects that he did exhibit mental health problems.
Zachary Daniels
Zachary Daniels was booked into Fort Bend County Jail in Richmond, Texas, on December 29, 2021. Mr. Daniels was 22 years old when he died in the jail’s custody. He was discovered hanging by his neck in the single-occupancy cell he was housed in and died on the same day, which was February 4, 2022.
Robert John Barela
Robert John Barela died in the custody of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in El Paso, Texas, on February 23, 2022. He had been booked into the jail 13 days earlier on February 10. Mr. Barela was discovered hanging by his neck from the ceiling. He had fashioned a ligature using a bedsheet. He was 37 years old at the time of his death. He was housed in a single cell, and the custodial death report indicates that he did not make suicidal statements or exhibit mental health problems.
