Galveston County Jail is Found Noncompliant
The special jail inspection report shows that Galveston County Jail violated Rule §275.3 in the chapter on the Supervision of Inmates.. However, the minimum jail standard shown is in the chapter on Admission and it is Rule §265.3-Observation During Holding, which states that inmates confined in a holding cell or detoxification cell shall be observed by facility personnel at intervals not to exceed 30 minutes. A TCJS inspector wrote the following message about noncompliance of Galveston County Jail:
- During the review of documentation provided for a custodial death that occurred on July 3, 2023, it was determined that multiple rounds exceeded the mandated 30-minute timeframe.
