Hardeman County, Texas Sheriff’s Deputy Shoots and Kills Man With Knife
A custodial death report was recently filed with the Attorney General of Texas regarding the death of Tommy Wayne Welch. Mr. Welch was 59 years old at the time of his death. For some unknown reason, the district attorney in Vernon filed the custodial death report. Texas law requires that the agency with purported custody of a person who dies be the agency that files the report. Information in this post was obtained from that report, and we make no allegation of any wrongdoing against anyone.
A Hardeman County, Texas deputy responded to a possible suicidal person call in Quanah, Texas. The deputy located Mr. Welch. Mr. Welch allegedly had a large knife and advanced toward the deputy. The report indicates that Mr. Welch continued advancing toward the deputy. Ultimately, the deputy shot and killed Mr. Welch.
