In Atascosa County an Inmate May Have Died of Alcohol Detoxification-Pt.5
Lifesaving measures were administered to Nancy Crystal Lopez by a deputy and a nurse after the nurse could not find a pulse. Emergency medical services arrived at the Atascosa County Jail and transported Ms. Lopez to a local hospital at 8:04 AM. The Jail Administration released Ms. Lopez to the family once she arrived at the hospital. On May 5, 2023, at 12:15 AM, Ms. Lopez was pronounced deceased. An autopsy has been performed, but the results of a toxicology report is still pending.
At the same county jail outside Texas where the inmate in the last segment of this series died, in 2014, jailers were caught on video laughing and joking as he slowly died.
In March 2015, a young woman died from the effects of heroin withdrawal dehydration. When fellow inmates attempted to alert authorities about the seriousness of her condition, they were crudely instructed to shut up.
Several Inmates Allegedly Suffer a Withdrawal Death at the Same County Jail
In 2017 in a county jail outside Texas, a woman told the jail staff that she had used heroin before being arrested. She was supposedly closely monitored, but her condition deteriorated rapidly. About 72 hours after her arrest, she was discovered unresponsive in her cell, and she never regained consciousness. News sources stated that her death was another of several heroin-related withdrawal deaths.
