Inmate Dies After Being in Custody of Comal County, Texas Sheriff’s Department

2012 09 18 18.41.59 scaled

The Comal County Sheriff’s Department filed a custodial death report with the Attorney General of Texas regarding the death of Jose Guadalupe Rodriguez.  Mr. Rodriguez was 37 years of age at the time of his death.  Information in this post was obtained from that report.  We make no allegation of any wrongdoing but are instead simply providing information.

On May 13, 2018, Mr. Rodriguez was booked into the Comal County Jail for allegedly driving while intoxicated.  The following day, he was moved from a holding cell into a cell block.  One or more jailers learned that Mr. Rodriguez was allegedly acting in a strange manner.  Mr. Rodriguez was eventually moved to another cell and, at some point, placed on suicide watch.  On May 17, 2018, Mr. Rodriguez was found lying on his back on the cell floor, unresponsive.  Mr. Rodriguez ultimately passed away in the hospital, allegedly days later.  The report does not describe the manner or cause of Mr. Rodriguez’s death, but it does indicate that Texas Ranger Joey Evans will be investigating the death.  The report also indicates that autopsy results are pending
