Inmate Victor Cadena Dies in a Bexar County Hospital

Victor Cadena, 34, was booked into Bexar County Jail on October 8, 2025. Tragically, he died in the jail’s custody just four days later after being transported to a hospital. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) filed a custodial death report (CDR) about Mr. Cadena on November 7, 2025.
No information within the CDR gives a clue about what condition Mr. Cadena was in when he entered the Bexar County Jail. “Unknown” was the answer to typically revealing questions like did the inmate make suicidal statements, appear intoxicated, or exhibit mental or medical problems?
Summary of How Mr. Cadena’s Death Occurred
On October 12, 2025, at approximately 8:20 a.m., a code blue was initiated in University Hospital, Sky Tower, room 6-033. The patient, Inmate Victor Cadena (ID #901007), had been admitted to the hospital under proxy status and subsequently placed in the custody of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

The external law enforcement agency notified following the death was the Bexar County Constable’s Office, Precinct 2.
Bexar County Jail, also known as Bexar County Adult Detention Center, is at 200 N Comal St, San Antonio, Texas 78207. The jail’s inmate capacity is approximately 5,075.
Bexar County Jail Has Been Cited for a Lack of Timely Medical Care or Medical Neglect in Several Inmate Deaths
In recent years, several inmates in San Antonio’s Bexar County Jail have allegedly died from medical neglect or failing to provide timely medical care. Two tragic examples follow:
- Inmate Ed Penix died in Bexar County Jail in 2023, allegedly because the jail failed to monitor inmates and provide required medical care for a chronic condition. His cause of death was due to diabetic ketoacidosis, which is a preventable condition.
- Also in 2023, Daniel Pentkowski was a Bexar County inmate who died, and initially, the Bexar County Sheriff’s office said it was due to self-inflicted injuries. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s office ruled his death a homicide resulting from physical restraint, and a lawsuit alleges excessive force and lack of proper medical attention.
