Daniel Maldonado
On January 10, 2022, Daniel Maldonado was booked into Bexar County Jail. He died at a hospital on February 15, 2022, while still in the jail’s custody. The cause of Mr. Maldonado’s death is currently unknown and pending results from an autopsy. The CDR’s summary about how the death occurred is very brief. Nothing is mentioned about any medical care Mr. Maldonado may have received while he was at the jail. It simply indicates that a Code Blue was called for him, and he was admitted to a hospital. Lifesaving measures were administered but Dr. Eugene Stolow pronounced Mr. Maldonado dead at 7:28 am.
In a jail inspection report dated February 19 through 22, 2019, Bexar County Jail was cited for 9 alleged violations of minimum jail standards. The Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS) establishes operational requirements for Texas county jails. Two of the minimum jail standards listed in the report pertain to the supervision of inmates documented on observation logs. Learn more in the next installment of this series. Also see Part 1.
