Inmate’s Death is at least the 3rd in Bexar County Jail Texas Since February 2022-Pt5
On May 11, 2022, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office sent the State of Texas details on the death of 44-year-old Bexar County Jail inmate Emmitt Earl Byrd. Mr. Byrd was pronounced dead on April 21, 2022, after he committed suicide in the single cell where he had been housed. The address of the Bexar County Jail is 200 N. Comal in San Antonio, Texas, 78207.
Richard Altamirano Dies
Richard Altamirano was arrested and went through intake at Bexar County Jail in San Antonio, Texas, at age 58 on November 5, 2021. He was declared dead just three days later on November 8, 2021. The custodial death report (CDR) summarizes the events surrounding Mr. Altamirano’s death. On the day of his death, at 2:20 AM, jailers conducted a welfare check on Mr. Altamirano because he had refused a diabetic check. Corporal C. Cruz went to his cell and initiated a medical assistance code.
After he was evaluated in the medical infirmary, a Code 1 blue (medical emergency) was initiated. An ambulance with the San Antonio Fire Department arrived at the Bexar County Jail and departed with Mr. Altamirano at about 3:15 AM. Seventeen minutes later, at 3:32 AM, Dr. Kristen Baker pronounced him dead.
